On Friday, February 13, 2026, the CCB department once again hosted its Chemistry Day. As part of this annual event, doctoral students from various research groups presented their projects in talks and on posters. The focus of the evening was on last year’s graduates, who were honored at an academic commencement ceremony. In addition, two doctoral awards sponsored by Bayer AG were presented.

Throughout the morning and afternoon, doctoral students from all of the department’s research groups gave presentations on their work. As always, the quality of the presentations by these early-career researchers was high, and for many of the presenters, this was the first time they had presented their research to a broader audience. A jury selected the best presentations and awarded prizes to Noemi Nwosu, Alexandros Pervanidis, Albert Hermann, and Nadeshda Kataev (19 presentations in total). There was also a poster session, during which the posters were briefly presented by their authors in the form of “flash talks.” Here, too, a jury awarded three poster prizes to Sarah Recknagel (1st place), Kotryna Keliuotyte (2nd place), and Pranav Bharadwaj (3rd place) (22 posters in total).

The evening’s closing ceremony focused primarily on the many graduates from the past year who earned their bachelor’s or master’s degrees in chemistry, chemical biology, or chemistry education. Awards were also presented for the best doctoral dissertations in the fields of chemistry and chemical biology.

The doctoral awards went to Dr. Pascal Kolodzeiski in the “Chemistry” category (supervised by Prof. Henke) and to Dr. Kim Wendrich in the “Chemical Biology” category (supervised by Prof. Gersch). The awards were presented by Dean Prof. Kast and Prof. Beck, an honorary professor and employee of Bayer AG, which sponsored the awards.

The keynote address at the academic commencement ceremony was delivered by Prof. Dr. Amelie Heuer-Jungemann. With her presentation on hybrid bionanosystems and DNA origami structures, she provided a fascinating insight into her current field of research. The Teaching Award, presented by the students, went this year to Dr. Bastian Grabe for his particularly outstanding lecture “High-Resolution NMR in Chemistry and Chemical Biology.”

The graduation ceremony was accompanied by music performed by Dr. Andreas Homann (lecturer at the TU) and Carsten Schattauer.

The CCB department is delighted that, in addition to the graduates, many parents, relatives, and friends attended the academic graduation ceremony.
